WHO WAS MACHIAVELLI?

NICCOLO MACHIAVELLI
- Born in Florence- 1469
- Worked as a diplomat
- Wrote the first Discourse in 1499
- 1512- Medici family rises to power yet again
- Florcence's republic ceases to exsist
Throughout Machiavelli's life he was a die hard Italian republican. And the Medici family, whenever in power, hated him for this and imprisoned him and tortured him
NICCOLO MACHIAVELLI
- 1512- Arrested and tourchured.
- 1513- wrote his most famous work: The Prince.
- Wrote many other books and plays.
- 1527- Medici's loose power again.
- Machiavelli becomes papal historian and dies in 1527.
The Prince was Machiavelli's greatest works and was written to attempt to gain favor with the Medici's by writing about the Borgias. This backfired, but all ended well as he was eventually freed by Pope Leo the X and died that same year, so he never really caught a break, unless you include the numerous amounts of plays that he wrote that were filled with overtly sexual content, but nobody really acknowledges his plays because they weren't very good

"From this we learn that a wise prince sees to it that never, in order to attack someone, does he become the ally of a prince more powerful than himself, except when necessity forces him, as I said above. If you win, you are the powerful king's prisoner, and wise princes avoid as much as they can being in other men's power."
Between writing both his Discourses and The Prince- he simply conveyed the happenings of politics, which gave lead to others telling people what is right or wrong with leadership- but Machiavelli only stated facts but he lead the way to what we know today as CNN and FOX

This is a term used by many a politician and law enforcement members to essentially describe gangs and mafias and anything that they can bash on negativally
