6 SIMPLE MACHINES

  • Wheel and axle
  • Lever
  • Pulley
  • Screw
  • Inclined plane
  • Wedge

WHAT IS A SIMPLE MACHINE?

  • A SIMPLE MACHINE IS A DEVICE THAT CHANGES THE DIRECTION AND MAGNITUDE OF A FORCE.

WEDGE FAMILY

  • Wedge
  • Incline plane
  • Screw

LEVER FAMILY

  • Lever
  • Pulley
  • Wheel and axle

RESULTS

  • My incline plane efficiency average was 266%
  • My movable pulley efficiency average was 161%
  • My third class lever efficiency average was 77%
  • My incline plane had the highest efficiency because I had to pull it up a steep incline plain.

MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE RESULTS

  • My average for my mechanical advantage in the incline plane is 2.6
  • My mechanical advantage average in the movable pulley is 1.6
  • My mechanical advantage average in my third class lever was 0.59
  • My biggest average for mechanical advantage is the incline plane because again it's the steepest. The scale had to use the most work.

LEVER

  • A lever is a simple machine that makes work easier by by moving a load around using a pivot force.
  • Ex: light switch.

PULLEY

  • A lever is a wheel on an axle that is designed to support movement and change of direction of a taut cable or belt
  • Ex: elevator

WHEEL AND AXLE

  • The wheel and axle is a wheel attached to a smaller axle so that these two parts rotate together then a force is transferred from one to the other.
  • Ex: Tire

INCLINE PLANE

  • An incline plane is a flat supporting surface tilted at an angle, with one end higher than the other, used for lifting or lowering a load.
  • Ex: going up a hill.

SCREW

  • A screw is simply an inclined plane around a cylinder.
  • Ex: screw

WEDGE

  • A wedge is simply a triangular tool, often made of metal, wood, stone or plastic.
  • Ex: axe and knife.
