SYMPTOMS OF MAD COW DISEASE

  • Animals have symptoms related to the nervous system, like depression and loss of cordination
  • Later in the illness, dementia develops but that is only in advanced stages of the disease

CAUSES OF MAD COW DISEASE

  • The agent is hard to characterize, its neither a virus or bacteria
  • It is classified as slow viral diseases can only affect other animals
  • The structure of a protein is the amino acid
  • It comes from a modified form of a normal cell & it can also affect the tissue
  • It also eats away at the nervous system

HOW ITS TRANSMITTED

  • Only transmitted by blood transfussion
  • Both pathogens can be involved in the interaction
  • Airborne prions are also infectious and can induce mad cow disease

EPIDEMIOLOGY OF MAD COW DISEASE

  • First appeared in great brittan in 1986
  • It is not an endemic in any particular area
  • It is not spread through a population of the world because its not a normal sickness
  • It can ONLY be transmitted by blood transfussion
  • MCD is extremely rare in the U.S

TREATMENT OF MAD COW DISEASE

  • The drugs used used to fix mad cow disease consist of :
  • Trimipramine, an antidepresentt, and fluphenazine and antiphychotic

PROGNOSIS FOR FUTURE

  • Mad cow disease does not affect humans and will not ever affect us
  • It has also become very rare in the past 10 years
