In the article entitled "Moral Hypocrisy" it explains how moral hypocrisiy is the motivation to appear moral without actually being moral. Moral Hypocrisy is also defined as being the complete opposite of moral integrity (Baston 2). Research showed that moral hypocrisy is common especially in societies. Moral hypocrisy is most often seen in groups of people, rather than just one. Many behaviors that may be assumed as moral integrity are likely to be motivated by moral hypocrisy.

Class systems throughout a society combine similarities in people who possess the same economic status. There are normally three classes and each has their own prejudices towards each other. This is shown throughout the novel, Maggie: A Girl of the Streets, and Maggie falls under the impoverished lower class of her society.

In writing this novel, Stephen Crane emphasized the idea of moral hypocrisy through the class structures in a society. He exposes the lower class with a truthful eye opening story. He inspires a social change through showing a mirror to reveal their own hypocrite selfs. The book was directed for the middle class which were also practice the same values. He uses the character Maggie and her tragic real story to help inspire a change in their society. Maggie's innocence and life was not only destroyed by the people around her, but also the culture created by all the classes.
