Job Descriptions
A makeup artists job is to apply or teach to apply makeup. They may be solo or may work in a group/team. Makeup artist work with actors, performers, or even models. Their job is to make sure this person looks perfect!
Education/Training Required
Some states only require a high school diploma while others require a state license. Also preferable if you've gone through a Cosmetology Associates Degree program, which is offered at community colleges. One thing that can surely help is a knowledge of all the types of makeup.
Average Pay
Makeup artists can make, on average, anywhere from $31 for average to $150 for the best an hour and $66,330 for average to $140,000 for the best a year.
Outlook
Performance-related makeup artist jobs are expected to grow only 3% from 2010 to 2020.
Work Environment
Makeup artist work irregular hours, and are expected to work indoors as well as outdoors. They also have no permanent "office". They go from a theater to a set and even to a clients home.
