MAKING SOMETHING’S ONE THING, PITCHING IT IS ANOTHER.

WHAT DO I WANT TO MAKE AND PITCH?

• We all love a few good jump scares here and there.
• However, the best horror movies have a wry witty script and a great, eerie score.

WHAT DO I WANT TO MAKE AND PITCH CONT.

• I’m looking to make a satirical horror movie script for my Genius Hour project. Or, I’m looking to make a great soundtrack.

WHY DO I WANT TO MAKE A SCRIPT?

• Horror movies address a number of issues in society through irony (ie. Shaun of the Dead), and sometimes the movie will address it directly. (ie. Get Out)

WHY DO I WANT TO MAKE A SCRIPT CONT.

• I want to make a poignant, and funny script for a horror movie, and learn how to pitch it, because I want to inspire other artists to not take their medium so seriously.

WHY WOULD I WANT TO MAKE A SOUNDTRACK?

• I don’t sound like the kind of person who likes to make music, but I’ve already made a song out of loops.
• I enjoy listening to music and consider it an essential part of my life.
• Without music, I believe a movie loses its authenticity and effect.

WHY DO I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE A PITCH?

• If I aim to make great art, and nobody feels something from my piece, did I really accomplish my goal?
• Art is to provoke, and I plan to do just that.
• So, I have to get in the industry, in order to accomplish this goal of mine.

WHY DO I NEED TO MAKE A PITCH?

• The image displayed, in the last slide, is a body paint I did. However, I could only get access to the materials I needed to make the piece from participating in the make-up artist community.

WHAT (AND WHO) WILL I NEED TO ACCOMPLISH MY GOAL?

• My uncle, Frank, saved us all from having to watch Namor (Marvel’s Aquaman) by pitching an idea for Thor.
• He’s the reason why they thought about an Avengers movie. I’d be crazy not to consult him on this. I can also use my former art teacher, Jay Shy, who successfully pitched his comic, The 4th Wall, to Image Comics.
• I will need the Notability app to have a place to organize my research and final project.
• I will need the contact information of the people I’m pitching to.

WHAT WILL I NEED CONT.

• I will need Pages to make my final research paper.
• I will use my Netflix. It’s for research.

HOW WILL I DO ALL OF THIS?

• I will research the process of writing horror movie scripts, composing a score, and pitching it.
• I will also research who pitches scripts to who, to get a better understanding of how I contact the people I want to pitch to.
• After my research, I will write the script or compose the score.
• I will then pitch my project.
