PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Epidemics: Malaria

Group 6: Patrick, Garrett, and Yida

How does Malaria relate to climate change?
Malaria is spreading because of Global warming. The rising temperatures are causing the mosquitos that carry malaria parasites to inhabit new areas.

What is Malaria?

  • A deadly disease
  • Effects the internal organs
  • Parasites get inside the body
  • Destroys red blood cells

How does malaria spread?

  • Animal to human transmission
  • Always transmitted by female mosquito in animal to human
  • In red bood cells
  • Can be human to human transmission
  • Needles, organ transplant, blood transfusion, etc.

How severe is Malaria?

  • In some circumstances it is fatal
  • Causes organ dysfunction
  • Neurological and renal dysfunction-most severe
  • May cause kidney failure, and seizures
  • Also cunfusion, and comas

malaria Symptoms

  • Fever and flu like symptoms
  • These include shaking chills, and headaches.
  • Muscle aches, and tiredness
  • Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur

frequency of malaria

  • 1500-219,000,000 people catch it annually
  • About 67% (2/3) live through it
  • The number of people that cathches it varys
  • Both the number of cases and the number of deaths will increase
  • We need to stop it now

why do we care?

  • Malaria is not in our area currently
  • If we do not use our solution it will spread to here
  • Once it spreads here it has the potential to kill you
  • More innocent people will die

Big problem

How can we stop Malaria from spreading because of climate change in such a way that it is environmentally friendly, affordable, and permenant?

Create a substitute for oil and gas that is not a fossil fuel and doesn't hurt the environment

solution steps

  • Create the substitute
  • Convert people to stop using gas and start using the substitute.
  • Stop using gas and oil, stop global warming, stop malaria from spreading.
  • If the creation fails, we will just use natural energy

Solution Pros

  • Conserves oil and gas
  • Uses energy that is not dug up from the ground.
  • Stops further global warming.
  • Better for the enviornment.

solution Cons

  • Hard to make
  • Will take time to create
  • Could be unable to create
  • Could cause unemployment also

sad but true facts

  • 3.3 billion people in 106 contries are exposed to malaria
  • In 2010, malaia cause 219 million clinical scenes and 660,600 deaths
  • Every minute a child dies of Malaria
  • Approximately 86% of deaths from Malaria are children

WE NEED TO ACT FAST
