Ancient Mali had powerful kings who ran their government. This is called monarchy. The most famous king of ancient Mali is Mansa Musa.
Did you know that Sundiata was "The Lion King"?
He created the kingdom of Mali. Since Sundiata created Mali, that makes him the first king of Mali.
