PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MANDIBULAR OBLIQUE LATERAL PROJECTION

BALAYON, BELTRAN, DOMINGO, GHORBANI, LEGASPI, LEAL, LIM

mand. oblique lateral projection

  • Mandibular body and mandibular ramus
  • an aiming cylinder is best used
  • patients holds the casette
  • speed films could be either fast or moderate.
  • not commonly used projection

MANDIBULAR BODY

PROJECTION, FILM PLACEMENT, HEAD POSITION, PROJECTION OF CENTRAL RAY AND EXPOSURE PARAMETERS

film placement

  • casette is placed againts patient's cheek
  • centered over first molar
  • lower border parallel with inferior border of Mandible
  • extending atleast 2 cm below

Untitled Slide

HEAD POSITION

  • head is tilted toward the side being examined
  • mandible is protruded

Untitled Slide

PROJECTION OF CENTRAL RAY

  • CR is directed towards 1st molar region from a point 2cm below the angle on the tube side.
  • CR should be close to perpendicular to the plane of the film as possible.

exposure parameters

  • 65 kvp
  • 10 mA
  • 1/4 seconds (medium speed screens &film)

MANDIBULAR RAMUS

PROJECTION, FILM PLACEMENT, HEAD POSITION, PROJECTION OF CENTRAL RAY AND EXPOSURE PARAMETERS

film placement

  • casette is placed over the ramus
  • far enough post. to include the condyle
  • lower body of casette: approx. parallel with inferior border of Mand.
  • should extend at least 2 cm below the border.

Untitled Slide

head position

  • head should be tilted toward the side of Mand. being examined
  • until a line between mandibular angle next to tune and condyle
  • away from the tube parallel to the floor
  • patient should protrude

projection of central ray

  • CR is directed posteriorly toward the center of ramus
  • from a point 2 cm below the inf. border of thr first molar region

exposure parameters

  • 65 kvp
  • 10 mA
  • 1/4 seconds (medium speed screens &film)
