MAO ZEDONG

EARLY LIFE

  • Born: December 26, 1893
  • Born in Shaoshanchong, China
  • He was the son of a wealthy farm and landowner
  • He had a planned marriage at 13 to Luo Yigo but declined and ran away from home

RISE TO POWER

  • He joined the New People's Society
  • 10 other people helped him from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
  • They merged with the KMT and Mao was nominated director of the Peasant Commisions
  • Mao and his party both formed the Red Army, an army of peasants, to fight the KMT
  • The KMT had to unite with the CCP to defeat the invading Japan army, helping his rise to power

HOW HE STAYED IN POWER

  • He tortured people to show his dominance and how much power he had
  • He accused opponents of opportunism and betrayal
  • He killed about 160,000 people because of his torture method

HOW HE FELL FROM POWER

  • Mao Zedong truly fell from power when he died
  • He was a heavy smoker and drinker and had three heart attacks
  • The third one killed him, and he might have had ALS
  • He died on September 9, 1976

LEGACY

  • He helped from the People's Republic of China
  • He did that good thing and bad things like killing his people
  • His "plan" was to be just like Stalin, with 5 year plans
  • He is mostly remembered for the bad although he made a strong gov.
