PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Marble Slab vs Baskin Robbins
In the highly saturated ice cream industry, not all ice cream franchises are created equal. To see how Marble Slab Creamery appeared in the big picture, we compared some of the qualities of a Marble Slab Creamery to Baskin Robbins. Baskin Robbins is recognized as one of the ice cream industry franchise leaders.
Topics of Discussion
- Menu Selection
- Technology Use
- Reward Offers
- Quality and Freshness
1. Baskin Robbins is known for having 31 flavors, but in actuality it is a lot more than that. However, many of the flavors at Baskin Robbins are seasonal, whereas Marble Slab Creamery offers the flavors year-round. In addition to ice cream, both stores offer cakes, frozen yogurt, and shakes that are relatively comparable. Baskin Robbins offers sherbet while Marble Slab offers sorbet. The two treats are similar, but sherbet often contains more added ingredients. Marble Slab Creamery has a more interesting selection of hand-made cones and cone-cups in the store than Baskin Robbins, which can be custom-coated with sprinkles and flavors. Marble Slab Creamery also offers ice cream cupcakes and ice cream pies, which are not available at Baskin Robbins.
2. Both Marble Slab Creamery and Baskin Robbins offer online menus and information. Both companies also allow customers the ability to order online. Marble Slab Creamery allows customers the option to save information through a login process to make future ordering easier, while Baskin Robbins does not offer this option. Marble Slab Creamery also offers a much larger customizable selection of cakes and cupcakes pictured online to delight guests and family members at any kind of celebration.
3. Marble Slab Creamery and Baskin Robbins both offer customers reward programs as an incentive. Baskin Robbins gives customers a free ice cream on their birthday, a discount on a cake around their birthday, and unspecified special offer emails through their Birthday Club. Marble Slab Creamery offers customers a free ice cream for signing up, a free ice cream for their birthday, a point for every dollar spent that can be redeemed for $5 off when 50 points have accumulated, and a $5 reward on the anniversary of signing up for the Happy Slab Rewards program.
4. When it comes to quality and freshness, Marble Slab Creamery is head and shoulders above Baskin Robbins. Marble Slab Creamery makes all ice cream fresh daily in the store, while Baskin Robbins does not make the ice cream in the store. When customers order ice cream at Marble Slab Creamery employees mix the ice cream on a frozen marble slab. At Baskin Robbins, mix-ins are mixed into the ice cream using a machine or simply sprinkled on top. Marble Slab Creamery also takes pride in using only the freshest local dairy for the ice cream.
