Born during the French Revolution
He was born on May 20, 1789
Attended his first day of school at age 11 but, decided to quit after a day because, the brutal treatment towards the children.
Marcellin decided to study for priesthood.
He failed the class and was sent home.
He was re admitted through his and his mother's efforts.
After Marcellin was ordained, he was shocked by the lack of education for people in the rural area.
He visited a kid that had no idea about any of the Catholic teachings. Marcellin had taught the kid everything about Catholicism.
This personal experience motivated Marcellin to establish the Marist Brothers.
MEMORARE IM THE SNOW
Shortly after Marcellin had left from his meeting there was a terrible snow storm.
He and another priest prayed the Memorare.
Soon after this they saw a lantern in the distance. They were saved by a local farmer, who had been walking to his stable, but had a door connecting his house to the stable.
He was battling cancer and had passed.
Marcellin died on June 6, 1840
He was only 51 years of age.
He was declared venerable by Pope Benedict XV.
He was beatified by Pope Pius XII on May 29, 1955.
Marcellin was canonized by Pope John Paul II on April 18, 1999.
