What is Marijuana?

  • Marijuana is a dry, green shredded mixture of stems, flowers and leaves. Also known in the category of Cannabis sativa.

Methods of Uses

  • There are many ways of using marijuana.
  • Using cigarette rolling paper to make a joint.
  • Including the marijuana in foods like cookies, brownies and drinks.
  • The use of pipes and the use of bongs.

  • Bloodshot eyes
  • Impaired body movements
  • Memory imperiment
  • Difficulty paying attention
  • Increased appetite

Prescribed or Illegal?

  • Marijuana is legal in only 2 states of the US which are, Colorado and Washington.
  • Other states like Arizona and New Mexico can have prescribed medical marijuana.
  • For people that have intense migraines, cancer, or AIDS,are eligible to be prescribed to medical marijuana.

Long Term Issues

  • Anxiety
  • Temporary hallucinations and paranoia
  • Increased heart rate
  • Problems with child development during pregnancy

Interventions

  • For some people marijuana can be somewhat addicting because a person can smoke so much that it can negatively affect the direction of their life.
  • Treatment for those people can include motivational enhancement approches or cognitive behavioral therapy.

Rate

  • 8th graders: 11.7 percent used marijuana in the past year and 6.5 percent were current users. Among 10th graders, 27.3 percent had used marijuana in the past year and 16.6 percent were current users. Rates of use among 12th graders: 35.1 percent had used marijuana in the past year and 21.2 percent were current users

  • 42% of people in the US have tried marijuana at least once.
  • Marijuana has been legal for personal use in Alaska since 1975, and it's still legal today.
  • California was the first U.S. state that banned Marijuana.
