  • smoked,using a pipe, a bong or by rolling a joint
  • Blunts are cigars that are emptied of tobacco and refilled with marijuana, sometimes in combination with other drugs
  • Can be swallowed and digested

WHAT IS THE CATEGORY OF DRUG?

  • A schedule 1 substance which means it has no legal medical use without a prescription and high potential abuse

  • Physcoactive chemicals are indegested
  • Main one is Delta /9 Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC
  • THC goes into heart
  • Heart pumps it into blood stream
  • The blood goes into the brain
  • THC activates receptors in brain. It changes chemical and physical balance in brain causing a high

  • Dry mouth and eyes

  • Cardiac problems for people with heart disease or high blood pressure
  • Increased susceptibility to infections

  • Studies have shown that people who use marijuana go on to using harder drugs like cocaine and heroin

WHAT ARE SOME STATISTICS AMONG TEENAGERS?

  • Teens who smoke heavily lost an average of eight IQ points between ages 13-38
  • Among boys 12-17 years old, in 2007, 6.7% were committed marijuana users
  • 94 million people have admitted using it. At the time this was 31% of the world in 2007
  • Contains 50%-70% cancer-causing substances than tobacco
