• Mexican-American War
• 1847, stormed enemy fortress Palacio Nacional
• Battle of Chapultec
• 2 days of battle
• Won control of fortress

THE SHORES OF TRIPOLI

• Captured Tripolitan city of Derna in 1805
• Thomas Jefferson refused to pay pirates on Barbary Coast
• Pasha of Tripoli demanded $225,000
• Thomas Jefferson ignored the demand, Pasha declared war
• Marines won the war by capturing "the shores of Tripoli"

• 54 hours, over 45 miles of marching
• No sleep, made to teach recruits teamwork
• Various difficult, strenuous team-building exercises
