Marine Veterinarian

Marine veterinarians take care of all the injured and sick mammals and fish. They answer to calls on stranded sea mammals and will help clean after oil spills.
Many work for the state and federal government as well as environmental companies.

While you are in High school

  • volunteer to work in an aquarium or a zoo
  • Take classes in biology, chemistry, environmental science.
  • And advance math classes.

While in college

  • You should get your bachelors degree.
  • Take classes like: biology, chemistry, physics, calculus,
  • statistics, biochemistry, English
  • Many coastal schools will provide a marine biology class.

Veterinary School

  • You will need a four year degree to be qualified.
  • Take classes for two years in: anatomy, psychology,
  • pathology,  and pharmacology
  • Then two more years working in a clinic.

After you are done with school, you will then take a state test to have a practice licenses.Then you work your way up.

In Florida you can make an average salary of $50,100, but you can make more than $88,300.

Working Conditions

  • Work office hours, unless they are in the field.
  • Work in laboratories, boats, and on coastal areas. 
  • Travel to attend conferences and training.

This a very limited job. The number of marine scientists exceed the needs.
