This presentation was created to display an excursion to the Maritime Museum that is being used for a Primary HSIE assignment. The excursion was planned and practiced by a group of 6 university students from Western Sydney University.
Accessibility: Navigators exhibit is wheelchair accessible. Endeavour is not, but students can take an alternate Virtual Reality tour for $2. Therefore, their excursion cost is $27.20.
Melbourne Declaration: 'Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander histories and cultures' is a Cross Curriculum Priority that needs to be addressed in order to benefit students (ACARA, 2016)
Learning about Captain Cook's voyage on the HMB Endeavour, his first contact with the Aboriginal and the impacts (BOSTES, 2013)
Classes will be split into 5 different groups. These groups will use classroom laptops to study a significant person or group of people that travelled on the HMB Endeavour.
Students will create mind maps that present the information they gather.
Students will then present their mind maps to the rest of the class.
Plan/details: The students will be led around the different sections of the ship during the guide to take different photos. The worksheets can be completed during the tour or when the iPads are handed out during designated times. The children will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore the ship.
