WHY DID SAMUEL CLEMENS USE A PEN NAME

  • Sam used many pen names before settling for mark twain
  • He used the name Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass before
  • twain is a term for two. The boatmans cry was "mark twain" or by the mark
  • He claimed that is wasn't entirely her invention
