PRESENTATION OUTLINE
What is your article about?
- The first Article I picked is called "Tim might be changing but Quebeckers remain faithful". It is about Tim Hortons' popularity in Quebec and how Tim Hortons is losing popularity among Canadians with new ownership
- The article also talks about the steps that Tim Hortons took in Quebec to go from a foreign company to one that people loved.
- An example of this is Tim Hortons removed the apostrophe in their name (Tim Horton's to Tim Hortons) because some people in Quebec perceived it to be breaking the language sign laws of their province .
How is Quebec unique in this case?
- Quebec is unique in terms of this article as it says that Tim Hortons has its strongest following from Quebec.
- Quebeckers are more likely to say the quality of food and coffee is improving in Tim Hortons than the rest of Canada, as well as the service and prices.
Other regions mostly understand this issue as the popularity rating of Tim Hortons in every province
Is decreasing. However, Quebec still has the highest approval rating of Tims while other regions are disliking it more and more, so other regions are perceiving Tim Hortons’ issue more negatively.
Marketers can use this article to become more successful at selling products by looking at the examples this article gives at how Tim Hortons got Quebec to like them, and trying to implement similar things, like make new product designs specifically tailored to the region you are selling to.
The second article I have selected is called "Québec's proposed French signage regulations give retailers much leeway" . It is about new regulations in Quebec that would make businesses with non-french trademarks to display proper french signage. This means stores like "the body shop" would become "Le body shop".
How is Quebec unique in this article?
- Quebec is unique because no other province is forcing companies to change their logo to comply with local language.
- Quebec speaks more french than any other region, and that's why the government is making companies incorporate french language into their sign design.
Other regions don't really understand this issue, as only Quebec is making companies incorporate this. The reason why Quebec is implementing this law is to promote Quebec's french speaking culture and make the businesses have a more local style. Since no other provinces or regions really speak as much French as Quebec, they can’t really relate or understand this issue.
Marketers can use this article to be more successful at selling products by taking the regulation into account and to come up with logo redesigns using french language if you are selling to Quebec. You can also take this information and see that Quebec likes "local style", so if you are marketing products to Quebec try to incorporate their culture into your marketing campaign.
