Marry Jones lost her husband and four children from the yellow fever when she was 30 years old.

Mary was a dressmaker but she lost most of her stuff in the Chicago Fire of 1871.

She got involved in the American labor movement. She joined the knights of labor. "She fights her battles with a mothers love." -a reporter

Her first strike was in the 1870s. The Baltimore and Ohio employees went on strike and they wanted Mary Jones's help.

Jones got involved with trying to get better conditions for RailRoad workers in 1877.

Also in 1880 she went on strike trying to get workers an eight-hour work day.

Mary was arrested when she was 82 years old during a violent strike in West Virginia.

She had to spend 6 days in jail in August 1913 while supporting a copper miners' strike.

Mary Harris Jones lived to the age of 100 years old she died in 1935.
