MARS

Mars is home to that tallest mountain in our solar system. It's name it Olypus Mons and it is a shield volcano.

There have been 40 missions to Mars, but only 18 have been successful.

PIECES OF MARS HAVE FALLEN TO EARTH

Mars got its name from the Roman God, Ares.

Mars has the largest dust storms in the solar system. They can last several months and cover the entire planet.

Mars is often referred to as the "Red Planet" because of its reddish appearance.

COMPARED TO EARTH

Differences
- Mars has 2 moons
- The sun looks 1/2 its size on Mars than it does on Earth
- Mars's temperature can be from -225 degrees F to 70 degrees F.

Similarities
- Mars and Earth have approximately the same land mass
- Both have active volcanos
- Both have an atmosphere
