LIFE

  • She was the 15th of 17 children
  • Her parents was former slaves
  • Went to segregated mission school
  • Was director of Negro Affairs in the National Youth Administration

Struggles/challenges
-She wanted to be a missionary for the Presbyterian church but the board did not expect her application to go to Africa
-When she work for the Roosevelt administration she try to make the federal government require equal pay for Africa Americans.

Changed the world
-She open school for African American people and fought for equal pay as well.
-In 1904 she founded a school called a Daytona Educational and Industrial school for Negro girls.

Reflection
-I think she is brave because she stood up for African American rights.
-She is very important because she is the first person to open school for Negro girls.
