PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
PRODUCT OF TWO BINOMIALS: FOIL
First Outer Inner Last
Multiply the first variable and the second variable
Next multiply the first number and the second variable
Then multiply the first variable and the last number
Finally multiply the first number and the last number

2.
PRODUCT OF TWO BINOMIALS: BOX
Make a box and divide it into four parts
Put each number on one side of the box
Multiply the numbers
Clean up the kitchen
Put the expression in its usual form

3.
FACTORING QUADRATIC POLYNOMIALS
Take the last number of the expression and divide it
Once you have all the factors match the numbers that add up go the second coefficient
To find the sign look at the second sign, if it is + then the first sign stays the same.
If the sign is - then the signs are different in each parenthesis
Put an x in both parenthesis, the sign, and the two factors

4.
FACTORING QUADRATIC TRINOMIALS: 3RD TERM NEGATIVE
This is the same as factoring positive quadratic trinomials
Because it is negative you have to subtract
Example: x2-8x+12= (x-2)(x-6)

5.
THE FAMOUS ONE
First put an x in each parenthesis
Find the square root of the number
Put a - sign in one of the parenthesis
Put a + sign in one of the parenthesis

6.
SQUARING A BINOMIAL
Square the first term
Add twice the product of two terms
Add the square of the last term

7.
FACTORING TRINOMIAL SQUARES
Check the first and last terms to find if they are perfect squares
Check the middle term
Middle: twice the product of the square roots of the 1st and last term
If the expression has one or none of those things it is not a trinomials square

8.
FACTORING QUADRATIC TRINOMIALS: 1ST COEFFICIENT NOT 1
Find the factors of the last number
Then multiply the first coefficient and add the 2nd coefficient
Multiply it using the FOIL method to check your answer
