EQ: HOW DO YOU DIVIDE EXPONENTS

  • Exponents are what power the whole number is rasied to. Exponents look like this 2*2
  • Exponents tell us how many times the whole number is going to be multiplied by itself
  • If the exponent is 2 to the third power you do 2 x 2 x 2 which would be 8
  • If there is 3 to the 2nd power 2 to the third you do the exponets first then add.
  • To divide exponents you subtract both of the exponents then add the base number to multiply exponents add the exponents and subtract base #

SQUARE ROOT

  • A square root shows what the whole number is raised to
  • For example the square root of 25 is 5 because 5x5 is 25
  • The square root shows what a number multiplied by itself is
  • Examples: square root of 4 is 2 the square root of 16 is 4
  • Questions square root of 64 the root of 36

SCIENTIFIC NOTATION

  • The scientific notation shows you were you pit the decimal point
  • If there is 4x 10*2 you start the decimal behind the 4 and you move it two times to the right since its positve
  • Or if its 4x-10*2 you start with the decimal behind the 4 and move it to the left
  • 4x10*2 is 40. and 4x-10*2 is .04
  • Questions: 5x10*3 8x -10*4

PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM

  • Pythagrean was a greek philosopher, he created the theroem
  • The formula is a^2+b^2=c^2/you use this to apply the side length
  • 3^2+3^2=18
  • 2^2+2^2=8

DISTANCE FORMULA

  • D=>€(x2-x1)^2+(y2-y1)^2
  • You use label the coordiantes like this
  • 1,2/1,3
  • x1,y1/x2,y2 substitute the coordinates
  • EQ: What do you use the distance formula for

TRANSFORMATION

  • EQ: how does dialations effect triangles
  • Transformations change the position and size of the triangles
  • Reflections is the mirroring of the object
  • It treats the y axis and x axis as a mirror if it says reflect over y axis you take the shape and move it across the y axis
  • For example if there is a shape in quadrant 1 and you have to reflect over x axis the shape would be in quadrant 4

ROTATIONS 90 DEGREES

  • Find coordinates of each point
  • Change x,y toy,x
  • Use quadrant signs of new rotated figure

ROTATIONS 180 DEGREES

  • Find coordinates of each point
  • Change x,y to-x,-y
  • Plot your points
  • Example: 2,4 after 180 is -2,-4

DIALATIONS

  • Dilations make the original shape smaller or bigger
  • If the original shape has coordinates of 2,4 3,7 5,3 and the new shapes coordinates is 0,2 1,5 3,1 the scale factor is 2
  • The scale factor is how many the coordinates got smaller or bigger

TRANSLATIONS

  • Translations move the shape to another coordinate or quadrant
  • It shows how the shape moved
  • If they tell you to translate up 2 right 3 you add the 2 to the x add 3 to the y
