ART

  • Modern Artist
  • Known infamously for his "impossible" art work
  • Lithographs took too much time. "They waste too much time for a man who believes he simply does not have time to waste"

TOWER OF BABEL

In the Tower of Babel by M.C. Escher he is depicting the building process of a vertical structure he is claiming to be the Tower of Babel. This modern art was drawn to show a historical event portrayed in the bible of when man tried to build a tower up to heaven, and supposedly caused the split of Pangea. This artwork consists of thin curved lines to show movement and shape. This is more of a line drawing, there is very limited contour but to capture your eyes the men on the building are black and very bold. Critiques also seem to keep quiet around Eschers work but I believe it perfectly captures the essence of a chaotic moment or, as some may say, the calm before the storm.

HOW DOES IT CAPTURE HUMAN EXPERIENCE?

  • It mainly shows how much diversity there was.

TOPICS IN SCHOOL

  • History- It shows the religion of the Babylonians and this event that affected them in the future. This artwork could be used to show the diversity and work ethic of the Babylonians and how their religion controlled them.
