MORPHINE

  • Invented by Friedrich Sertürner in 1805
  • It acts on the brain and spinal cord receptors to decrease the feeling of pain.
  • For severe pain. Mostly used in major surgeries

ASPRIN

  • Invented by Felix Hoffmann in 1897
  • It relieves pain without producing anesthesia or loss of consciousness
  • Mainly for minor aches and pains

INSULIN

  • Invented by Frederick G Banting and John Macleod in 1922
  • Agonist in helping replace the insulin the body normally makes.
  • Helps blood sugar(Glucose) get into cells
  • For diabetes type 2

PENICILLIN

  • Invented by Alexander Fleming in 1928
  • Help prevent bacterial infections
  • Basis is to fight bacterium in the body

BIRTH CONTROL

  • Invented by Carl Djerassi in 1951
  • Primarily used to prevent ovulation therefore preventing pregnancy

  • Invented by Dale Kempf in 1999
  • Used for HIV virus and infection
  • Binds to HIV protease to disrupt normal function.
  • The result is production of immature, non infectious virons

CRESTOR

  • Invented by a Co. Shionagi a Japanese Pharmaceutical company
  • Created in 2001 and ready for distribution in 2003
  • Lowers cholesterol and triglyceride levels
  • Also reduces risk for heart attacks and stroke
