MEDGAR EVERS

  • Born July 2, 1925
  • Grew up in a rural community
  • Grew up in Mississippi
  • He encouraged boycotts
  • Medgar was a civil rights activist

EDUCAtION

  • Involved in the civil rights movement
  • State field secretary for the NAACP
  • Married Myrlie Beasly in 1951
  • Enrolled in Alcorn college, Mississippi
  • Had three children

DURING THE WAR

  • Applied for the University of Mississippi in 1954, but was rejected
  • Was drafted into the army during WWII
  • Took part in Normandy
  • Dropped out of high school at age 17 to join the army
  • Tried to intergrate Mississippi schools

LATE LIFE

  • Was walking home one day and was assassinated by Byron de la Beckwith
  • Died in June 12, 1963
