CAUSES

• Sun exposure
• Skin type
• Family history
• Number of moles

WARNING SIGNS

• New lesions or moles
• Change in existing moles
• Lesions that itch or bleed

DIAGNOSIS

• Doctors will perform biopsies on suspicious moles
• Biopsies are removal of a mole from the skin
• The mole is sent to a lab and then they determine its nature

TREATMENT

• Removal by surgery

PROGNOSIS

• Death rates very for the severity of melanoma
• 10-year survival rates are as high as 95% for the least severe cases
• For the more severe cases survival rate ranges from 40%-20%
• Someone with melanoma would stay protected from the sun
