PRINCIPLES OF MEMORY

  • Memories are neural traces created in the brain.
  • They are linkages or connections between the neurons.
  • Chemical links are caused by several different types of action.

THREE R'S OF MEMORY

  • Registration- stage in which something comes to you and has meaning.
  • Retention- stage in which you make a conscious decision to remember something .
  • Recall- the ability to remember something.

  • Research proves that your memory is essentially a visual mechanism.
  • This does not mean you have crystal clean memory though.

SIMILARITY EFFECT

  • You remember things much easier if you group them.
  • Take words that are in random order and group them together.
  • Like cars with cars and so on.

MAKE ASSOCIATIONS

  • Make associations with words.
  • Link personal things with words.
  • This works very well for me in Spanish.

WEIRDNESS EFFECT

  • Like words like Zulu or Zoroastrian.

HOW I LEARN

MEMORIZATION

  • I try and memorize everything I'm learning.
  • I usually just read the thing I'm learning over and over.

FLASHCARDS

  • Flashcards help me learn tremendously.
  • They allow me to study at home and on the go.

VISUAL AID

  • Visual Aid is also a big learning tool for me.
  • If I see something I tend to remember it.

REPETITION

  • Repetition is my most effective learning style.
  • When I repeat things I usually always Remember it.
