MERMAID:

  • Legendary aquatic creature that has the upper body of a human and the lower body of a fish.

A FEW FACTS

  • Most appear on the shore of Asia, Europe, and Africa.
  • Normally they're caught in mischievous acts or falling in love with humans.
  • Mermen are less common.
  • Often symbolized by a comb and a mirror for a mermaid in her vanity.

THE FIRST MERMAID

  • The Greek goddess Atargatis turned herself into a mermaid out of shame for accidentally killing her lover.

A RARE CONDITION

  • Sirenomelia: (aka the mermaid syndrome) its when a child is born with legs fused together like a mermaid, this condition is even more rare than conjoined twins.
