ZIGGURAT

  • Nobody lives in them
  • Gods loved in the temple at the top
  • Each city had its own god
  • They made sacrifices to the gods
  • The gods were supposedly super-human size

RANKS OF SOCIETY

  • The order goes nobles, commoners, freemen, and slaves.
  • Nobles were priests and members of the royal family.
  • Commoners were skilled craftsmen, doctors, and other jobs.
  • Freemen were once slaves but were bought out of it.
  • Slaves would work on farms and do the towns dirty work.

LAWS

  • If a builder makes a house and it collapses and kills the owner, the builder will die. If the son dies, the builders son must die.
  • If a surgeon kills a noble, the doctor will die.
  • If you steal from a ziggurat, you get a death penalty. If you buy stolen goods, you will also die.

WRITING

  • Wrote on clay tablets
  • Wrote from top to bottom
  • Wrote a language called cuneiform
  • Wrote fast before the clay dried out

BUILDING

  • Used clay bricks
  • Ziggurats were made of layers
  • Let the bricks dry in the sun
