ART

  • Art was often made from stone, shells, alabaster, and marble
  • Art was mostly made into didactic pieces
  • Most art does not have the artists signature
  • The art was meant to embody the subject matter, instead of the creator
  • Most known and popular items of art were cylindrical seals, steles, narrative relief scriptures, and lavishly decorated tombs
  • Some art even depicted war and peace
  • Even part of the civilizations conquests were shown in art too

GOVERNMENT

  • The government of Mesopotamia was very unusual
  • A king and nobles made the laws
  • Some people were allowed to overrule laws and not have them made
  • To our own knowledge none of the laws were written down
  • When a law was passed by the king, it was expected to be learned and obeyed

CLOTHING

  • Mesopotamians clothing was beautified by dyes, appliqués, embroidery, and beads
  • Men often wore waist strings or small loincloths, that didn't offer a lot of coverage
  • The wraparound skirt was later introduced, which offered more coverage
  • Women often wore shawls around their bodies
  • Fringe also became very elaborate during the Mesopotamians time

2.Double Matrimonial Terracotta Drinking Vessel
