PRESENTATION OUTLINE

METHAMPHETAMINE “METH”

BY FLOYD WILSON

What is meth?
Meth is a stimulant drug usually used as a white, bitter-tasting powder or a pill.

It is chemically similar to amphetamine [a drug used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy, a sleep disorder].

Crystal meth is a form of the drug that looks like glass fragments or shiny, bluish-white rocks.

HOW DO PEOPLE USE METH?

  • Inhaling/smoking
  • Swallowing (pill)
  • Snorting
  • Injecting the powder that has been dissolved in water/alcohol.

Meth was first developed in Japan in 1919.

Meth went into wide use during World War II, when both sides used it to keep troops awake. Big doses were given to Japanese Kamikaze pilots right before there suicide missions.

In the 1950’s meth was prescribed as a diet aid and to fight depression.

LIFE EXPECTANCY

THE AVERAGE LIFE SPAN OF SOMEONE ON METH IS APPROXIMATELY SEVEN YEARS

SYMPTOMS OF METH

  • Hyperactivity
  • Dilated pupils
  • Talkativeness
  • Aggression
  • Jumpy eyes
  • Cravings
  • Twitching
  • Irritability
  • Tooth decay and tooth loss

Meth is dangerous because is can cause heart disease and brain damage.

I have been told that meth is a really common drug in Bristol Bay.

Over the past eight years, there has been a nearly tenfold increase in the amount of meth seized by the US Customs and Border Protection, from 8,900 pounds in 2010 to nearly 82,000 pounds in 2018.

I think people use meth because they need something to cope with their problems.

When someone does meth, they might become addicted and they could lose there job and they will lose all their money and their family would leave them and they wouldn’t have any friends.

Someone that is doing meth could’ve lost a close friend or a loved one or a pet

If you know someone that is doing meth you can try talking them out of it or hold an intervention and get them into rehab.
