PRESENTATION OUTLINE

METRIC SYSTEM

  • Online: the decimal measuring system based on the meter, liter, and gram as units of length, capacity, and weight or mass.
  • EMine: A measuring system using meters, liters, and grams to measure things.

VOLUME

  • Online: the amount of space that a substance or object occupies, or that is enclosed within a container, especially when great.
  • Mine: how much space something takes up. "How big"

MASS

  • Online: A measure not of the amount of matter in an object.
  • Me: how much matter is in something "how heavy"

LENGHTH

  • Online: the measurement or extent of something from end to end; the greater of two or the greatest of three dimensions of a body.
  • Mine: how long something is

TEMPERATURE

  • Online: the degree or intensity of heat present in a substance or object
  • The amount of heat something has, "how hot"

CELSIUS

  • Online: the scale of temperature in which water freezes at 0° and boils at 100° under standard conditions.
  • The unit we use to measure temperature

GRAM

  • Online: a metric unit of mass equal to one thousandth of a kilogram.
  • Ther unit used to measure mass

LITER

  • Online: a metric unit of capacity, formerly defined as the volume of 1 kilogram of water under standard conditions
  • Mine: the unit used to measure volume

METER

  • Online: the fundamental unit of length in the metric system
  • Mine: the unit used to measure length

BALANCE

  • Online: The triple beam balance is used to measure masses very precisely; the reading error is 0.05 gram.
  • Mine: used to measure mass

SCALE

  • Online: an instrument for weighing. Scales were originally simple balances ( pairs of scales ) but are now usually devices with an internal weighing mechanism
  • Mine: the tool used to measure weight

THERMOMETER

  • Online: an instrument for measuring and indicating temperature, typically one consisting of a narrow, hermetically sealed glass tube marked with graduations and having at one end a bulb containing mercury or alcohol that expands and contracts in the tube with heating and cooling.
  • The tool used to measure temperature

METER STICK

  • Online: a measuring stick one meter long that is marked off in centimeters and usually millimeters.
  • Mine: The tool used to measure length

BEAKER

  • Online: a lipped cylindrical glass container for laboratory use.
  • Mine: a round container used to measure volume

FLASK

  • Online: a narrow-necked glass container, typically conical or spherical, used in a laboratory to hold reagents or samples.
  • Mine: I narrow at the top and wide at the bottom container used to measure volume

WATER DISPLACEMENT

  • Online: The weight or volume of a fluid displaced by a floating body
  • Mine: the volume you get when you put something in water and see how much it goes up
