BACKGROUND

  • After Texas joined the United States, Mexico and the US couldn't decide on the border.
  • Fighting broke out and Congress declared war on Mexico in 1846 and ended in 1848.
  • We got land that now makes up the states of....
  • California, Nevada, and Utah.
  • As well as portions of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming.

THE CHANGE

  • The war and cession changed America
  • It change the amount of land we have,
  • Our relationship with Mexico,
  • And changed the rights of previous Mexican citizens.
  • It also got us closer to "Manifest Destiny".
