1756-1810

  • Barón de Ripperdá closed the last three missions in East Texas and forced the 500 settlers to move to San Antonio.
  • Y’Barbo led the settlers back into the East Texas timberlands,
  • Gálvez’s army forced British troops from towns and forts along the Gulf of Mexico.
  • In 1819 the United States and Spain signed the Adams-Onís Treaty, ending the boundary dispute.

1810-1821

  • A priest in the farming village of Dolores issued a grito.
  • The Republican Army battled Spanish forces south of San Antonio near the Medina River.
  • Rebel leaders declared the port of Galveston to be a part of the Mexican republic.

  • People such as Father Hidalgo were one of many causes for Spain's independance
