1821-1835

Timeline of Events

  • 1821 - Mexico gains independence from Spain.
  • 1824 - The Constitution of Mexico sets up a Federal structure with the province of Texas.
  • 1825 - Stephen F. Austin successfully brings 300 families to Texas, this is called "The Old 300".
  • 1830 - In Texas, the Law of April 6th, 1830 outlawed further immigration for US citizens.
  • 1832 - Angry colonists held a convention to demand the US should be allowed to immigrate.
  • 1832 - The Battle of Velasco.

1821 - Mexican Independence from Spain

  • On September 16, 1810, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a progressive priest, became the father of Mexican independence. Hidalgo's declaration, known as the " Grito De Dolores", created a decade long struggle that stopped 300 years of colonial rule. It also established an independent Mexico and helped create the unique Mexico identity you know.
