• Mexico had just gained Independence from Spain and they wanted to expand.
• Empresarios hired by the Mexican government brought people into Texas in return for land which was very valuable.

• Most people were from the southern united states rich cotton farmers that brought slaves.

• Native Americans populated texas before the mexicans came.
• Texans were very courteous around Native Amaricans.
