  • Born on March 6, 1475
  • Born in Caprese, The Republic of Florence, Italy
  • Born into a family of banking business
  • Apprenticed as a painter
  • Continued on to be one of the best artists during the Renaissance

CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Said to be the best artist during the Renaissance
  • Most famous pieces of art were David (1501-1504) and the Pietá (1499)
  • David was an 18 foot statue based of King David from the Hebrew Bible
  • Pietá depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of Mary after the Crucifixion
  • Pioneered the Mannerist Style
