MIDDLE COLONIES

CAUSE AND EFFECT

• England wanted people to come and move to New Jersey so they tried to make it attractive. One thing they did was they wrote the concession of agreement in 1665. Some of the rules were there Is religious freedom, no taxes, and a governor appointed by the people. The plan worked and many people came to New Jersey. If they didn't make New Jersey attractive, the population today may be different.

CONCEPT AND DEFINITION

• The Amish people came to Pennsylvania in the 1700's to live where William penn provided religious freedom. Amish people are special because they don't believe in motorized machines so no cars!

DESCRIPTION

• Benjamin Franklin was a vegetarian because simple meals gave him more time to read books. Franklin also had famous quotes like "Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead" and "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise". He also did famous experiments like the old "key on a kite string"

GOAL-ACTION-OUTCOME

• William bartram made a goal to find new flora and fauna. He traveled by canoe and talked to Indians to find new plants and animals and then he drew them. He ended up finding lots of animals and flowers

COMPARE/CONTRAST

• Delaware was linked to Pennsylvania but was taken over by Swedish people. Then American Indians killed many of the European settlers. Next English colonists took over Delaware and it became a "lower country". Since penn couldn't govern both states Delaware became a colony. Now many people call Delaware "home".

PROBLEM/SOLUTION

• The problem is a newspaper criticized sir William Cosby and he got angry. Mr. Cosby and John P Zinger went to court. Zinger's lawyer, Andrew Hamilton defended Zinger and the court let Zinger go and the result was the freedom of press.

SEQUENTIAL

• 1. In the 1760's New Orleans was the capital of the Spanish colony Louisiana.
• 2. Around 1765 some Filipino people jumped ship to get to Louisiana

PROPOSITION AND SUPPORT

• William penn should've named Pennsylvania (pens woods) Pennsylvania. My support is people shouldn't be selfish and name a colony after the owner. What I would do is let the colonists decide the name of Pennsylvania.
