About Miep
Miep was born in Vienna , Austria with the name Hermine Santruschitz. Her parents did not take good care of her so she left them for a family in the Netherlands who later moved to Amsterdam. She met a man named jan and married him and had a kid name Paul. When they got to Amsterdam, Miep needed a job. She got a job in a office and she was hired by a man named Otto Frank. Then Otto frank asked Miep for a favor.
How Miep helped
Miep was asked to be a helper for hiding the Frank family in the loft of the office building. When they were hiding she came in the office and dropped off food and informed them on news from the outside world.
Risks Miep took
Miep took some risks by hiding this family. First, she risked her own life by saving the life of others. Another risk was that she could've got arrested if she was caught doing any of this.
Mieps life before
Miep was a office assistant in Otto franks office. She was not treated well by her parents in Vienna so she moved with a new family to the Netherlands and then to Amsterdam.
Miep gies got recognized for her good work in a couple different ways. She was given 3 awards including the order of merit of the federal republic of Germany, the yad vashem medal and the Wallenberg medal. She also went on to publish a book about Anne Frank. There is also a small planet named after her called 99949 miepgies.
Where is she now?
Miep died on January 11th in 2010 due to a fall in her nursing home. She was 100 years old and just a month away until her 101st birthday.
