  • Between 1847-1868
  • From Nauvoo,IL to Salt Lake City,UT

WHAT FORCES LED THESE PEOPLE TO MIGRATE?

  • Mobs were persecuting them
  • The mobs had martyred Joseph Smith(their prophet)
  • Looking for safety to practice what they believed
  • New live, new start
  • A better future

PROBLEMS AND DIFFICULTIES THEY EXPERIENCED

  • Were still being persecuted
  • Had little food and water
  • Bad weather
  • Little clothing(would get worn out)

HOW DID THEY SURVIVE IN THE NEW AREA?

  • Worked together
  • Weren't an official state in the U.S.A.
  • Weren't being persecuted by the government

WHAT JOBS WERE THEY WILLING TO TAKE?

  • The Mormons were starting a new civilization
  • Usually did all jobs
  • Particularly where needed the most

DID THEY FACE DISCRIMINATION?

  • On the first part of their journey they were
  • Once they settled in Utah, it was peaceful

WAS THE MIGRATION VOLUNTARY OR FORCED?

  • It was a forced/voluntary
  • Forced because the government was kicking them out
  • Voluntary because they didn't want to be persecuted any more

WERE THERE ANY MIGRATION RESTRICTIVE LAWS?

  • No there were no laws at all
  • They started a new area just to themselves
  • Then became a state
  • Had to stop plagiarism

WHERE DID THEY MIGRATE?

  • Mormons migrated to as known to today as Utah
  • Utah was not a state yet at the time
  • Eventually became part of the United States
