VOCABULARY

  • Unoccupied (play)-when the child is not playing just observing.
  • Solitary(independent)play- when the child is alone and maintains it's focus on the activity
  • Onlooker play(behavior) when the child watches others at play but does not engage.
  • Parallel play- when the child plays separately from others but close to them and mimicking there actions.
  • Associate play- when the child is interested in the people playing but not the activity they are doing or when there is no organized activity at all

  • Cooperative play- when the child is interested both in the people and the activity they are doing

Idea behind theory
According to parten.
As children became older improving there communication skills, and as opportunities for peer interaction become more common be non social(solitary and parellel)types of play become more social( associative and cooperative) types of play becomes more common.
