MINING

Commercial mining in Antarctica was banned during the 1990s. The law was agreed in 1991 by the signatories to the Antarctic Treaty. However, even if you could mine in Antarctica it would be both very expensive and dangerous. Melting and shifting ice would mean mining would be impossible most of the year, and pack ice can be blown miles the in a day and transportation even in the relatively ice-free summer months would be very unsafe.

ENVIRONMENT IMPACT

Mining in Antarctica would have a horrible impact on the environment. Machines used to mine would produces gases which would eventually lead to the melting of The ice and areas where minerals have been found are habitats for animals, so mining will destroy species homes.
