WHERE?

  • There are 6 dams along the Mississippi.
  • 4 along the St. Louis River.
  • 1 along the Kawishiwi River.

HOW?

  • Most dams are used to store their water, so that when the water gets low and cant produce energy it can use the stored water.
  • The four dams on the St. Louis River reuse the water four times before they send it out to lake Superior.
  • The dams maintain lake levels, flood control, and water supply.

LAWS

  • You must have a permit from the state.
  • Federally owned dams must be of 6 feet or less can store up to 15 acre-feet of water. Dams of 25 feet or less can store up to 50 acre-feet of water. It has to meet those safety regulation standards or else it is against the law.

ENVIRONMENT

  • They can also have a negative impact as well such as,
  • Blocking water passage and fish.
  • Degrading water quality.
  • Harming wildlife habitats.

PEOPLE

  • It can also affect us in ways we don't even notice.
  • Affects our water quality.
  • Also weakens our irrigation.
