MISPLACED AND DANGLING MODIFIERS

Prevent miscommunication by showing which noun is doing the action.

MODIFER

A word or group of words that provide info about another word in the sentence

DANGLING MODIFIER

Occurs when a modifer does NOT refer to any noun in the sentence

MISPLACED MODIFIER

Occurs when a modifier is placed to far from the word(s) it refers to, creating confusion

EX.(WRONG)

Misplaced modifier- my sister only has 2 children

EX. (RIGHT)

Misplaced modifier-My sister has only 2 children.

EX. (WRONG)

Dangling modifier- Driving west the scenery was beautiful.

EX. (RIGHT)

Dangling modifier-Driving west, they saw beautiful scenery.
