Founding of the mission
The mission was founded September 1st 1772.
It is the 5th mission in order of missions.
The mission was founded by Father Junìpero Serra.

The mission is located on Palm St., San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 .
Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is in the middle of the mission chain.
It's called the ''Prince of the Missions''.
A college university is near by called California Polytechnic University.

Why was my mission built Where it is?
The city has mild weather.
It also has many near by resources.
The landscape there is beautiful.
Also the mission was close to a large population of bears, a food source.
It also was built by Bishop Peak for lookout.

special Qualities
It's Sub-Mission named Santa Margarita de Cortona and was founded in 1787
It was built in the "Valley of bears" because of the large bear population.
The mission was built by the Chumash Indians.
It was made of adobe brick that was covered with plaster and white washed.
It was one of the most outstanding historic landmarks in California.

Daily Life at the Mission
The local tribe grew lots of wheat, corn, beans, and hunted bears.
Chumash Indians learned to weave wool serapes they used for blankets.
Indian women had to grind all the grain by hand with a motar and pestal
They had to defend the mission from other hostile tribes.
The Indians raised 700 cattle, 900 sheep, 60 pigs,and 110 horses.

Interesting facts
It was the only "L" shaped mission in the chain of missions.
After the Mexican War, the church was no longer in charge of the missions.
After California became a state it was returned to the church in 1850.
Indians shot an arrow onto the mission's roof and it caught fire.
The fire is the reason they made tile roofs for the missions.

my mission today
Today there are many activities there like mass, festivals, and concerts.
The pastor, Father Russell Brown, is the 47th pastor since Father Serra.
Every April, there is an Italian chalk festival called I Modonnari.
The school there is called Mission College Prep, and Elementary.
