WHY I CHOSE TO GO TO MARS

  • I chose this planet because it has good materials to survive and it was the best temperature to live on besides Earth
  • On Mars I hope to learn how Mars works. The proper way to survive.

WHAT WAS IMPORTANT FOR BUILDING A SPACE CRAFT?🚀

  • My team and I decided to think of things that are important to have in a space craft
  • An engine
  • Parachutes
  • Food
  • Thrusters
  • Control room
  • Research room
  • Bathroom
  • Cafeteria-optional

They are important because you need to survive and keep the space craft able to make it all the way to Mars and back. The parachutes are important for when we jump out of the space craft we don't fall.

Control Variable
Control Variable-When your design/building stays the same. When something stays the same.

TEST #1,2,3

FOR CONTROL VARIABLE

What stayed the same test #1: we used a coffee filter for the parachute part and tan colored string for the suspension lines. They were 21 inches. For the load we used a bull dog clip.

What stayed the same test #2: we still used tan colored string for the suspension lines. They were still 21 inches and a bull dog clip for the load but for the parachute we used a brown fabric that didn't catch that much air as the coffee filter.

What stayed the same test #3:
We still used the tan string for the suspension lines but this time they were 13 inches and bull dog clip for the load but for the parachute we didn't use the brown fabric because that didn't work and we didn't use a coffee filter. We used a white trash bag.

My group used a trash bag for the canopy. It caught a lot of air. Then we used 13 inch tan colored string like the other tests. We still used a bull dog clip for the load.

INDEPENDENT VARIABLE

If I did a new parachute using the independent variable,I would change the size of the coffee filter but in this case I would use the trash bag for it to catch more air. I would use a bigger size because the more air the canopy can catch the longer it will take to come down.

What I learned
From this project I learned that scientists have a lot of work to do on making parachutes. They to make it extra big so it can catch a lot of air because they drop their's really high. We only dropped ours from a ladder. I also learned that if the canopy can't open when you drop it, it will drop down really quick. You have to make sure the parachute is mission ready. What was important about my learning is that we actually got to make one. If Mrs.French just told us to write down notes about it, I wouldn't have actually got the idea for what are doing in Science.
