essential question

HOW DOES RACISM PLAY A ROLE IN SOCIAL INJUSTICE?
My essential question is, "How does racism play a role in social injustice?

In Claudia Lahood's article, Social Justice Issue: Racism, racism is defined as making "someone else feel excluded from their community or society" (Lahood). She expresses how racism is being abusive or biased towards another race because they are different. Racism is the result of people who believe that their race is superior to that of another.

Racism reveals a person's true beliefs. She states, "Racism disempowers people by devaluing their identity. It also destroys the community and creates separation in the society." Racism separates people from society and makes them feel of less value than the rest of the world.

Racism plays a role in social injustice because many people have biased opinions of others because they are different. Many people just see the persons differences from the outside and judge them unfairly. Racism causes people to view a race unfairly and characterize the whole race as one, instead of each person having their own unique characteristics. But even so, the characteristics of the minorities are oftentimes negative characteristics, which leads to inequality and injustice. Minorities are oftentimes looked down upon by other races because of what society had characterized them by.
