When does it become necessary to go against the ways of society?

My essential question: When is it necessary to go against the ways of society?

Relation to the novel: Atticus Finch constantly goes against the ways of society in order to stand by his morals.

In the article, "Why It Takes Guts to Go against the Crowd" by Clifton B. Parker-Stanford explains the issues that can come along with the idea of nonconformity with society. "People may be willing to turn against their group's emotions when they believe the group should, but does not, feel the same emotions they do" (Parker-Stanford 1). People choose to conform rather than be made fun of or neglected by their peers.

It is important to break away from society when a person feels that they are going to lose who they are in order to conform with the people they are surrounding themselves with.

When people do not conform to their peers, they feel disconnected and separated. Potential bullying situations may occur because of this. It becomes necessary to avoid the ways of society when a person feels threatened or in danger.
